The dress, the rings, the shoes — those are checked and double-checked. What causes the small, solvable panics on a wedding morning are the secondary items: the backing for the earrings you bought six months ago, the spare pins that match your hair vine, the cloth you meant to polish the tiara with the night before. Here is the list.
1 — Earring backs that actually hold
This is the single most commonly forgotten item. Standard butterfly backs from off-the-shelf packaging are small, easily lost, and will not hold a heavier chandelier earring securely through six hours of ceremony, photographs, and dancing. If your wedding earrings have any significant weight or drop, consider purchasing a set of locking or screw-back replacements in advance.
2 — Matching hair pins
If your hairstyle involves any element of pinning — and most do — your stylist will use pins on the morning. They may not have ones that match your hair colour or the tone of your bridal hair pins. Bring a full set of matching pins. They weigh almost nothing and will be used.
3 — A soft jewellery cloth
Bridal jewellery travels in boxes and bags, gets handled by multiple people, and arrives at the morning with fingerprints on it. A small microfibre jewellery cloth weighs nothing, folds into any bag, and takes thirty seconds to use. Wiping each piece before you put it on makes a visible difference in person and in close-up photographs.
4 — Clear nail varnish
A small bottle of clear nail varnish applied to the inside of ring bands and bracelet clasps stops them marking your skin in the heat of the day. It also works as a thirty-second repair if a loose thread appears on a hair vine, and will slow tarnishing on silver-toned pieces throughout the reception.
5 — Your accessories in the order you'll put them on
This sounds pedantic until you're trying to fasten a necklace over a hair vine that's already been pinned, while someone holds your veil. Pack your accessories in the sequence you'll wear them: earrings first, necklace second, bracelet if you're wearing one, hair accessories last. Label the cases if it helps.
6 — One simple backup piece
If there is one piece in your look that would genuinely upset you to lose or damage — a specific pearl tiara, a pair of earrings with personal significance — consider packing a simple backup. Not an exact replacement, just something elegant enough that the full look would still work. Insurance, not pessimism.
7 — Your order reference
If anything needs returning or exchanging after the wedding, or if you want to find and order the same piece as a gift for a bridesmaid, having the order reference means you can locate it immediately.
